How to Calculate a Fair Taxi / Ride-Hailing Fare in Pakistan

Ahsan Malik Updated 1 July 2026 6 min read

Accepting every ride is the fastest way to make no money. Here is the fare formula full-time drivers in Karachi and Lahore actually use.

The break-even formula

Minimum fare = (Distance × cost per km) + (Time × opportunity cost) + platform commission. If the offered fare is below this, decline it.

Estimate cost per km first

Use the Pak Fuel Calculator to convert your car's average and current fuel price into PKR/km. This is the number you must recover from every ride.

Time cost matters

A 20 km ride at 30 km/h (heavy traffic) costs the same fuel as a highway ride but ties you up 4× longer — reduce your acceptance for those routes.

Commissions in 2026

Careem: 20–25%, inDrive: 0–9% depending on city, Yango: variable. Always subtract commission before comparing fares.
